Excerpt:
She stepped toward the stone door and bent down to examine the keyhole. "Of course, it's made of dead pixies!"

Bray watched, but refused to approach her after what she'd done to him. "Dead pixies? As in fairies?" he asked, walking to the side window. He glanced outside to see the pink sun gradually setting.

"When silver touches pixies, they die. Their remains, in the form of dust, become a weapon that shields us from using our power. To answer your question earlier, no, pixies are not the same as fairies. It would do you well to learn that, should you ever come across one."

Ten things I've learned since I started writing:

1. Build an author platform

2. Social media is key.

3. Read books daily (especially your genre or target market)

4. Write reviews for other books. Understand what you like and don't as a writer.

5. Build a website or better yet a book blog

6. Create a Street Team. Recruit your fans

7. Attend author events (UtopYA was AWESOME)

8. Don't listen to every bit of advice you receive. Write for you. Otherwise you'll make no one happy.

9. Keep a notebook handy near my bedside. As I'm tired and start to fall asleep, sometimes I get worthwhile ideas for where to take the next chapter. By morning I'll forget it if I hadn't written it down.

10. People will inevitably forget to tell you that they saw you dedicated the book to them.

About the Author:
Ruth Silver first began writing poetry as a teenager and reading heaps of fan fiction in her free time. She has written under three unique pseudo names and penned well over a hundred stories.

She attended Northern Illinois University in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. While in college she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, "Deuces are Wild", which she self-published in 2004. Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories.

Her love of writing, led her on an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia. Silver enjoys reading YA novels and sharing her favorite books with other readers. She runs her own book blog and also enjoys photography and traveling.

Her favorite YA genre is a mix of Dystopian & Fantasy which is evident in the upcoming release of her latest book, Aberrant. Slated for release April 2013 by Lazy Day Publishing, it is the first in a trilogy.

Amazon / B&N

Excerpt:

“Welcome once again, my loyal subjects, to the private Club Luxe,” Malcolm said in greeting. “If you were invited tonight, congratulations. You are the most elite of the elite.” His lips pulled into a hard smile as his piercing eyes gazed over the crowd. He stood from his throne and felt his balls lift from the wood as he thrust a golden scepter into the air. “Tonight, let’s party like the gods we are!”

Everyone in the room cheered. Malcolm looked over their adoring faces with deep satisfaction. These Friday nights were always the highlight of his week. He could already feel his stress washing away with the promise of the indulgent revelry that was about to begin. However, there was something different about the club tonight. He squinted as he scanned through the crowd, feeling the weight of an unusual gaze upon him. When he found her, his eyes widened in surprise. Malcolm found himself gripping his scepter tighter as he gazed down at her.

Victoria.

The raven-haired woman looked at him with a defiance in her eyes that was exquisite. Malcolm was taken aback for a moment, before he remembered himself and the role he was currently playing. A devious smile spread across his lips as he looked down at the young reporter thoughtfully. Wicked ideas danced across his mind, and Malcolm knew he could not resist the temptation.

He began moving toward her, and his balls swayed between his legs as he walked. He moved to the edge of the stage until he was standing directly above Victoria. He felt his cock stir as their eyes became deadlocked in an intense gaze.

“I’m pleased to see a new face amongst us this evening,” he announced as he stared down at her. His lips pulled into a tight smirk. “Let’s say we give her a special welcome.”

The others politely clapped their hands and murmured in agreement. Victoria looked slightly nervous and Chloe glanced away from the bartender with concern. A pleased smile appeared on Malcolm’s face as he saw the reactions of the crowd. While he was usually reserved on nights like this, he could not resist the opportunity to toy with Victoria. Besides, if he was honest with himself, it had been a particularly stressful week, and was feeling the need to release his animal side.

“You in the black dress,” he said, pointing directly at her. “Come up to the stage. You will do the honors of beginning our night of lust.”

Victoria flinched ever-so-slightly before glaring at him. “How would you suggest I do that?” she asked cautiously.

“I want you to strip yourself down to nothing,” Malcolm commanded slowly, “and then bring yourself to sweet release in front of all these people.”

He saw a slight flash of fear pass through her eyes. He wondered if she would protest. After only a moment’s hesitation, she lifted her head proudly and took a bold step toward the stage.

“Whatever the king wants,” she said as she slowly climbed the stage.

Guest Post:

Fifty Shades of Grey meets Lois Lane

In a world filled with books about controlling, dominant men, I set out to write about a female that was a match for them. It was a difficult puzzle at first, to figure out how an ordinary woman could compete with a high-powered billionaire, and hold her own against all his attempts to manipulate her.

Then it hit me. My childhood hero, Lois Lane, stood up to Superman on a daily basis.

Both in and out of the bedroom.

While my billionaire businessman Malcolm Cage is not a superhero, he is wealthy enough that he might as well have superpowers, along with the ego that follows them. But Victoria has a superpower too: her sense of justice and unshakable resolve ensure that she will never let this handsome CEO destroy her and trample her heart. Her self-esteem and values make her invulnerable to his cruel games and emotional torture.

It has bothered me how much erotic romance focuses on humiliating and belittling the female for pleasure. While Victoria is placed in many uncomfortable predicaments that are downright mortifying, her strength of mind and character will take her through them all unscathed. Her focus is on her goals and purpose, and while she struggles with sexual distractions and emotional fragility as much as anyone, she tries her best to conquer her weaknesses and push forward in a man’s world.

My goal is to write books that are sexy as well as empowering, and I know that I have finally succeeded with this one. The chemistry between Victoria and Malcolm is sizzling and off the charts, but both characters are headstrong and challenge each other to be constantly better. Sometimes, it warms my heart when I see the fire and tenacity of Lois Lane rising to the surface in Victoria’s stubbornness. I really wanted to create a brave and ballsy female character for modern women to look up to, and I hope that my readers will find her inspiring. She definitely inspires me, and I love writing about her.

Interview with Olivia Noble

Q. How did you get into writing?

A. I’ve loved telling stories since I was a child. When I grew older and got married (I’m still deciding whether that was wise) and had my beautiful children, writing had to go away. For a long time I was miserable and I had no idea why; I had a good life. I was just so busy being “honey” or “mommy” or “I hate you!” and I had no time to be just “me.” I love my family and my children, but I needed to escape. I began writing again, and unleashed my inner storyteller. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.

Q. How do you balance your family and your career?

A. Very carefully, with a lot of time budgeting. My husband is a pure champion and has been 110% supportive of me. At first, my kids needed so much attention that I could only write at night when they were asleep or at school. I had already quit my job to become a full-time mom, so I had some extra time to pump out a few hundred words before I crashed. Now that it’s been a while, they know once mommy goes into her office that it’s quiet time. My husband will take them outside to play for a few hours while I get some work done, and then I’ll make it up to the family with dinner and a movie. (And research with my husband.)

Q. How do you keep your sex scenes fresh and exciting?

A. Refer to the last line of my previous answer. My husband is more than happy to help with this aspect of my writing.

Q. What sets your books apart from others in your genre?

A. This is a really good question! To be honest, I read a lot of New Adult Romance. I’m just drawn to the memories of when I was that age and all the hardships I faced. I vividly recall the struggles with boys and rent (although I still struggle with boys and rent) and figuring out who I was as a person. I also met my husband at that age: my first great love (and if he’s good, my last.) Even though this was the hardest time in my life, the rewards were significant.

Q. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

A. There is lots of advice to give, but the most important skill is time management. Finding the time to write, especially when you’re just starting is a huge undertaking and will kill your budding career before you even have a chance to let it grow. Make writing your main priority and cherish every moment you have to sit down with your characters.

EXCERPT:

He raises my chin with one finger and smiles at me with a sincerity that is worrisome rather than reassuring. I'm not sure what game he's playing, but everything in me screams that this is indeed a game.

"You're so innocent," he says.

"You mean naïve?"

He shakes his head, staring deep into my eyes. The smell of his tanned skin is intoxicating. My heartbeat increases making me feel faint.

Control yourself, Grace, is all I manage to think. He's not the man I kissed at the library. I take a breath and pull myself away from the physical and emotional closeness he's trying to build between us.

This will never happen. It cannot happen. I'm not bad looking, but I'm not exactly calendar material. There's no way a man like this could be interested in me. Taylor is the one who's always gotten the attention when we went out together or met new people. Whatever Nate's issues are, they have nothing to do with me and I don't need another troubled man in my life.

"This has been interesting, but I think it's time for you to go," I say. "It's getting late and I'm exhausted."

He looks frustrated. "I haven't said what I came here to say."

"Well, just say it already." This might have come off as a little aggressive. I try to soften it up. "Or don't say it."

"Will you be my friend again?"

His meaning escapes me. "Are you asking if things can go back to normal?" I say, shrugging my shoulders. "Sure, why not?"

"I want us to go back to that moment when I invited myself for dinner," he says slowly. "I want us to start from that exact moment."

I get up and lock my eyes on his. "Why, Nate? I mean, we had no problems being shelter buddies and getting along in our strange way. That seems to be our most peaceful state. Why do you need to make it something more? You sound a little crazy wanting to go back to a moment in time. Why?"

"Because you're the most curious person I've met in a long time."

"Me? I'm the curious one?" I laugh in an exaggerated manner.

"It's more of a curiosity I feel when I talk to you, when we're close, when we kiss, when my body feels your warmth," he says almost scientifically.

I make sure to give him my most incredulous glare. "Really? If it was the kisses and warmth you were after you pretty much fucked that up."

"I know I did," he says like a sad puppy. I sincerely want to jump his bones, but resist. "That's why, Dear Grace, I am asking to be friends only."

"Silly Nate," I say. "Forgive me, it's Nathan, right?"

"Nate's fine," he says. "Anything your voice says is fine by me."

"What girl can be only friends with you?" I say weakening.

Instead of an answer, he puts one hand behind my head and pulls me back down to the couch with his face close to mine. "I don't care about any other girl," he says.

My whole body loses the will to resist as he parts my lips with his tongue. He tastes like honey and cinnamon. He tastes like happiness. He gently bites my upper lip, letting a finger trace my ear ever so slightly.

His arm tightens around my waist sending splintered pulses along my spine. I fight to keep a simple truth from him, that he could make me do whatever he wants. I hide a thousand yeses from him, desperate that if they all spill out at once there would be nothing left of me to love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Alison Foster loves reading a good love story almost as much as she loves writing one. She spends her time dreaming up strong heroes and even stronger heroines and she enjoys finding unexpected strengths within her characters when they are in the most unexpected places.

She believes that passion makes the world go round and that a sexy grin is as sweet as candy. She loves interacting with readers, so feel free to drop her a line.

Available from:

Excerpt:
After pacing a while, I went to the edge of the stage to sit down, hang my legs over the side, and look out on the pencil-straight rows of burgundy theater seats.

Several minutes passed when I heard, "Christine-I'm over here."

I whipped my head to the left and my mouth fell open. Erik was standing on the stage for me to see, dressed in black warm-ups and arrayed in an elaborate costume mask that concealed his face.

With effortless grace he approached me, every step revealing his nimble dancer's body. When he stopped he extended his open hand to me and I took it, allowing him pull me to my feet with a strong arm.

Mere inches from me, he waved a hand in front of the mask. "I know this is strange. But it was the only thing I could think of. And it didn't seem right for me to be behind the curtain and you out here crying all by yourself."

Still surprised to see him on stage, I stared open-mouthed at the mask. Full-faced, it was white with angular, almond shaped eyes. The upper half was stippled gold, with raised filigree swirling across the forehead and down the sides of each cheek. The lips were of a softer, more buttery, shade of gold. The face-piece connected to a length of black knit that was swathed in an Arabian style across the top of the mask, draped under his chin and wrapped back up to be pinned high on the other side. It was stunning.

"Are you afraid?" he asked.

I closed my mouth and shook my head.

He was still holding my hand in his, and lifting it between us, he placed his other on top so that he held my hand warmly between his, and asked, "Then will you let me dance with you?"

About the Author
I'm not the typical author. I didn't always enjoy reading or writing. While in school, I found it to be a chore I'd just as soon skip. I would rather have been daydreaming, my favorite past time. It wasn't until I grew up and didn't have to, that I realized reading was fun. I soon discovered that reading fueled my daydreaming. So, remembering a short story I'd written in high school, I began imagining expanding that story into a book. Before long I found I had loads of ideas for not just the short story but other books and stories as well. Fast forward a few years, a lot of studying about writing, practicing my writing, studying some more, taking classes from people who knew what they were doing, studying and practicing yet more, and ta-dah, author! In the same way I had learned I loved reading, I learned I loved writing, too. It's just that writing is a lot harder than reading.

Excerpt:

My laptop on the patio table pings a new tweet on my timeline.

Girl @mrsinvsman - 1s @mrinvsman - As you commanded, I'm #BareForYou

My whole day is instantly better. God, this girl just lights me up. I forget the planned tweets and just reply to her.

Master @mrinvsman - 5s
@mrsinvsman - I expect obedience.

Girl @mrsinvsman - 1s
@mrinvsman - #GoodGirlTonight Tell me what you want. ;)

Master @mrinvsman - 3s
@mrsinvsman - #FlatOnTheFloor #LegsOpen #FingersWet

There is no answer after this request and my heart beats a little faster at the prospect that she does not want to play with me tonight. I want her to play. A few seconds after this private admission, a ping.

Girl @mrsinvsman - 2s
@mrinvsman - #DoneDoneAndDone Now your turn, unzip and let loose. I need a pic to continue.

Oh, that little bitch. That sneaky, delectable, horny, filthy little bitch. I laugh quietly as I consider the fact that she might have Twitter moves I've never even dreamed up yet. I unbutton and unzip my pants and my thick cock springs forward. I fist it, pumping two or three times just to get myself erect, then I scoot back and let the full length of my manhood fall across my flat, muscled stomach. I hold up the phone and snap a pic, sync it to my laptop, and attach it to the tweet.

Master @mrinvsman - 3s
@mrsinvsman - #LikeALollipop NOW.

God, what I'd do to her lips around my shaft right now.

Girl @mrsinvsman - 2s
@mrinvsman - #TwirlsAndSwirls

Her tweet comes with a picture too. A high angle looking down on her face. Fingertip in her mouth, tip of her tongue seductively touching, lips puckered appropriately, fuck-me eyes at half-mast, and just the slightest hint of her open legs. Jesus fuck. She is hot. And she is one hundred percent naked. I was almost afraid to let myself believe she'd really be playing along, but she is. She more than is, she's into it.
