Excerpt:
She stepped toward the stone door and bent down to examine the keyhole. "Of course, it's made of dead pixies!"

Bray watched, but refused to approach her after what she'd done to him. "Dead pixies? As in fairies?" he asked, walking to the side window. He glanced outside to see the pink sun gradually setting.

"When silver touches pixies, they die. Their remains, in the form of dust, become a weapon that shields us from using our power. To answer your question earlier, no, pixies are not the same as fairies. It would do you well to learn that, should you ever come across one."

Ten things I've learned since I started writing:

1. Build an author platform

2. Social media is key.

3. Read books daily (especially your genre or target market)

4. Write reviews for other books. Understand what you like and don't as a writer.

5. Build a website or better yet a book blog

6. Create a Street Team. Recruit your fans

7. Attend author events (UtopYA was AWESOME)

8. Don't listen to every bit of advice you receive. Write for you. Otherwise you'll make no one happy.

9. Keep a notebook handy near my bedside. As I'm tired and start to fall asleep, sometimes I get worthwhile ideas for where to take the next chapter. By morning I'll forget it if I hadn't written it down.

10. People will inevitably forget to tell you that they saw you dedicated the book to them.

About the Author:
Ruth Silver first began writing poetry as a teenager and reading heaps of fan fiction in her free time. She has written under three unique pseudo names and penned well over a hundred stories.

She attended Northern Illinois University in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. While in college she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, "Deuces are Wild", which she self-published in 2004. Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories.

Her love of writing, led her on an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia. Silver enjoys reading YA novels and sharing her favorite books with other readers. She runs her own book blog and also enjoys photography and traveling.

Her favorite YA genre is a mix of Dystopian & Fantasy which is evident in the upcoming release of her latest book, Aberrant. Slated for release April 2013 by Lazy Day Publishing, it is the first in a trilogy.

Excerpt:
After pacing a while, I went to the edge of the stage to sit down, hang my legs over the side, and look out on the pencil-straight rows of burgundy theater seats.

Several minutes passed when I heard, "Christine-I'm over here."

I whipped my head to the left and my mouth fell open. Erik was standing on the stage for me to see, dressed in black warm-ups and arrayed in an elaborate costume mask that concealed his face.

With effortless grace he approached me, every step revealing his nimble dancer's body. When he stopped he extended his open hand to me and I took it, allowing him pull me to my feet with a strong arm.

Mere inches from me, he waved a hand in front of the mask. "I know this is strange. But it was the only thing I could think of. And it didn't seem right for me to be behind the curtain and you out here crying all by yourself."

Still surprised to see him on stage, I stared open-mouthed at the mask. Full-faced, it was white with angular, almond shaped eyes. The upper half was stippled gold, with raised filigree swirling across the forehead and down the sides of each cheek. The lips were of a softer, more buttery, shade of gold. The face-piece connected to a length of black knit that was swathed in an Arabian style across the top of the mask, draped under his chin and wrapped back up to be pinned high on the other side. It was stunning.

"Are you afraid?" he asked.

I closed my mouth and shook my head.

He was still holding my hand in his, and lifting it between us, he placed his other on top so that he held my hand warmly between his, and asked, "Then will you let me dance with you?"

About the Author
I'm not the typical author. I didn't always enjoy reading or writing. While in school, I found it to be a chore I'd just as soon skip. I would rather have been daydreaming, my favorite past time. It wasn't until I grew up and didn't have to, that I realized reading was fun. I soon discovered that reading fueled my daydreaming. So, remembering a short story I'd written in high school, I began imagining expanding that story into a book. Before long I found I had loads of ideas for not just the short story but other books and stories as well. Fast forward a few years, a lot of studying about writing, practicing my writing, studying some more, taking classes from people who knew what they were doing, studying and practicing yet more, and ta-dah, author! In the same way I had learned I loved reading, I learned I loved writing, too. It's just that writing is a lot harder than reading.

Excerpt:
He shakes his head like he's trying to erase the image from his mind. "It's been a long day. I'm tired. The heat is getting to me, and I missed you like crazy."

I reach up on my toes and kiss him. He pulls me close and places his hand on the small of my back, making sure I don't try to get away, not that I plan to. He deepens the kiss as I bury my fingers in his hair. My body is pressed up against his, and I stay that way until my lungs are aching for air.

"Wow," he says when we finally pull apart. "If that's what apologizing gets me, I'll have to think of more things to apologize for." His hands are on my waist, and I wrap my arms around him, laying my cheek against his chest. I can feel his heart thumping, and I smile knowing I'm the one who sent it into such a frenzy.

"Hey, did I say something wrong?" Ash pulls me back so he can stare into my eyes.

"Not at all. Why?" How do I keep making him feel like he did something wrong? He's perfect.

"You got really quiet."

"I was listening to your heart. It's beating really fast." I smile at him. "It sort of made me forget my head hurts."

"It was probably the kissing that did that." His cheeks flush a little in the cutest way. "Lack of oxygen to the brain and all."

"Kissing you could probably cure just about anything."

"Probably?" he asks, faking a hurt tone in his voice.

I reach up and kiss him again, but his watch beeps. I pull away and grab his wrist. Nine thirty.

"Damn it! I told my parents I'd be home by nine thirty. How did it get so late?" It doesn't seem like we've been kissing that long.
